The objective of this guide is to provide a basic understanding of common thyroid conditions and their subsequent treatment for patients and their families. Its aim is to focus on both medical and surgical treatment of thyroid disease through the use of schematic illustrations to improve patient understanding of their underlying condition. The diagrams contained within this booklet are loosely based on common operations and procedures involving the thyroid gland. Although these diagrams are not necessarily anatomically accurate they will help ensure that patients are well informed on their condition and treatment.

This guide will allow both doctors and patients to make more informed decisions and improve communications between both groups allowing for maximum benefit during medical consultations.
