Advances in Cleanroom Technology 2nd Edition
By William Whyte
ISBN: 978-1-917195-07-2 e-Book £45
ISBN: 978-1-917195-11-9 Paperback £65
This book is based on scientific articles written about cleanrooms by Dr William (Bill) Whyte and his co-authors. Dr Whyte is an international authority on cleanrooms, with over 50 years of experience in designing, testing, and running cleanrooms. In almost 500 pages this book contains 32 articles, written by Dr Whyte to advance knowledge of cleanroom technology.
The book is divided into seven sections with helpful introductions explaining the background to each section and summarising the key points. The cleanroom topics discussed in these sections are: history of cleanrooms; risk management and risk assessment of contamination; airflow and measurement of air supply; calculation of airborne concentrations of contamination and air supply rates; validation of sampling methods; sources of contamination from people, surfaces, and air supply; deposition of airborne particles.
Since the publication of the first edition of this book, the author has written a number of new articles. Nine of these have been added to this book, while a similar number of less relevant articles have been removed. In this second edition, the articles have been rearranged and the summaries of each section improved to give a clearer and more holistic approach. By this means, the information in this new edition of the book should prove even more helpful to anyone involved in the design, testing and operation of cleanrooms.
Section 1: The history of cleanrooms
Section 2: Risk management and risk assessment of sources of contamination in cleanrooms
Section 3: Airflow in cleanrooms and measurement of air supply volumes and velocities
Section 4: Calculation of airborne concentrations of contamination and required air supply rates in non-UDAF cleanrooms
Section 5: Assessment and validation of sampling methods
Section 6: Sources of contamination in cleanrooms: people, floors, surfaces, and air supply
Section 7: Deposition of airborne particles
Review of First Edition
"The book will be of great value across the cleanroom community from academia, to specifiers and designers, test and certifiers, and of course users." European Journal of Parenteral and Pharmaceutical Sciences
About the author
William (Bill) Whyte is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, with the useful dual qualifications of a BSc in microbiology, and a DSc in mechanical engineering. He has been carrying out investigations for over 50 years into the design, testing, and operation of cleanrooms and hospital operating rooms.
Dr Whyte has published over 150 journal articles on the design of cleanrooms and hospital operating theatres, and the control of contamination within them. He has written the books ‘Cleanroom Technology – Fundamentals of Design, Testing and Operation – Third Edition’, ‘Basic Cleanroom Technology’, ‘Cleanroom Testing and Monitoring’ and edited the book ‘Cleanroom Design’. He is a member of BSI and ISO workgroups that are writing, or have written, ISO cleanroom standards. He has extensive experience as an industrial consultant and presenter of educational courses about cleanrooms, and has received numerous awards for his work on cleanroom technology.
